Faculty/Staff

 

St. Francis School has an outstanding faculty and staff; five members of the faculty hold Master’s degrees.

 

Kindergarten: Johna Hayes – holds a Master’s degree from Texas A & M. Johna has many years of teaching experience. She has earned “Teacher of the Year” award four times (District #77, Nebraska Rural Schools, K-8, Zaval Elementary K-6, and Miller Jordan Middle School.) Johna has also earned “Pentathlon Coach of the Year” in San Benito CISD.

 

Kindergarten Aide: Meghan Thomas – ably assists Johna Hays in the Kindergarten program.

 

1st Grade: Becky Aversa – a graduate of the University of Oregon, has many years of teaching experience in the Archdiocese of Portland. She earned her Teaching License at the Southern Oregon University.

 

1st Grade Aide: Margaret Smyth – ably assists Mrs. Aversa in the 1st Grade classroom.

 

2nd Grade: Kathy Fisher – a graduate from Central Missouri State University with a degree in Elementary Education. She has a Masters of Science in Education with a Reading Specialization from the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She holds an Oregon teaching license with specialist attachments in Reading. Mrs. Fisher comes to us with high recommendations and served two local Catholic Schools with distinction.

 

2nd Grade Aide: Therese Jolibois – ably assists in the 2nd Grade classroom.

 

3rd Grade: Sue Morley – she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Marylhurst University. She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our 3rd Grade classroom.

 

3rd Grade Aide: Judy Gram-Leach – ably assists in the 3rd Grade classroom.

 

4th Grade: Sherri McCarry – is a graduate from San Diego State University with a degree in Liberal Arts. She holds an Oregon Teaching License. Mrs. McCarry is an outstanding educator with many years of dedicated service to her community.

 

5th Grade: Terri Boris – is a graduate from Marylhurst University with a degree in Social Studies and Education. She brings a wealth of experience with her and has achieved many highlights in her distinguished career. She holds an Oregon Teaching license.

 

Middle School

 

Lori Haugsten – Mrs. Haugsten has spent close to twenty years teaching in the Portland Archdiocese. She is an accomplished teacher that has also been assigned to teaching Middle School Literature and Grammar. She earned her degree and teaching license from Portland State is designated as a “Highly Educated Teacher” by the University as determined by the “No Child Left Behind Act”.

 

Vicky Smith – Mrs. Smith is a graduate from the University of North Dakota where she earned her degree in Elementary Education. She is a talented Science and Math teacher and has taught in the Portland Archdiocese for many years.

 

Specials

 

Music: Stephen Fulks – Mr. Fulks earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Oregon State and his Master’s degree in Education at Pacific University. He holds a current Oregon Teaching License in Music. Mr. Fulks is an accomplished musician and teacher. He is also Music Director in the Parish.

 

Art: Sally Green – is a graduate from Montana State University with a degree in Art. Her love of Art is will matched by her passion to serve the children of St. Francis School. Mrs. Green holds and Oregon Teaching License.

 

Spanish: Margaret Rutledge – earned her degree at Linfield College in Elementary Education with minors in Spanish and Latin American Studies.  She recently earned her Master’s degree from Portland State University and holds a current Oregon Teaching License. Mrs. Rutledge brings a wonderful enthusiasm for not only the language but also for the cultures of Latin American and Spain.

 

Physical Education: Marcella Hatfield – Mrs. Hatfield earned her Bachelor of Science degree at Oregon State University and her Master’s degree in Exercise Science at the University of Wisconsin. She brings a wealth of knowledge to the Physical Education program here.

 

Administration

 

Principal: Michael Cantu – holds a Master’s degree from the University of San Francisco; Institute of Catholic Educational Leadership in Privage School Administration. He earned his teaching credential from Loyola Marymount University and his Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA. Mr. Cantu taught at Notre Dame High School and is currently serving in his 10th year as principal. He has attended numerous national conferences on Catholic Education including the National Catholic Educational Association “Principal Academy” in Washington D.C. He holds a current Oregon Administrative and Teaching License.

 

Administrative Assistant: Gretchen Brown – is the school Secretary and Bookkeeper with a wealth of experience combined with a good nature and a healthy sense of humor.
