David Brooks, New York Times op-ed columnist and regular PBS NewsHour and Meet the Press commentator, has written a book he says represents a shift in himself. Engagingly written, Brooks explores "the deeper values that should inform our lives," what he calls "eulogy virtues," not "resume virtues." Using biographical materials from such diverse figures as Dwight Eisenhower, Dorothy Day, A Philip Randolph, and George Marshall, he looks at how strong inner character is built. The Road to Character invites us to "rethink our priorities, and strive to build rich inner lives marked by humility and moral depth."
