The Holy Father, Pope Francis, has announced that 2025 will be a Jubilee Year, a tradition observed every 25 years. The theme for Jubilee 2025 is “Pilgrims of Hope,” emphasizing hope for a world facing the challenges of war, the climate crisis, and disease. — Spes non confundit (Hope does not disappoint)
What is a Jubilee?
A Jubilee Year is a special time in the Catholic Church, celebrated every 25 years. It’s a year of grace, forgiveness, and renewal, offering Catholics a chance to restore their relationship with God, others, and creation. The tradition comes from the Bible, where every 50th year was marked as a time for forgiving debts, freeing captives, and letting the land rest (Leviticus 25:8-13).

"In the last two years, not a single country has been unaffected by the sudden outbreak of an epidemic that made us experience first-hand not only the tragedy of dying alone, but also the uncertainty and fleetingness of existence, and in doing so, has changed our very way of life. Together with all our brothers and sisters, we Christians endured those hardships and limitations. Our churches remained closed, as did our schools, factories, offices, shops, and venues for recreation."
A Year of Spiritual Renewal and Grace
The Jubilee Indulgence is a special grace offered during a Holy Year, freeing the faithful from the spiritual effects of past sins. To receive it, Catholics must be truly repentant, go to Confession, receive Holy Communion, pray for the Pope’s intentions, and perform a spiritual act such as a pilgrimage, charitable work, or dedicated prayer.How to Receive the Jubilee Indulgence:Pilgrimages: Visit a designated sacred site chosen by the local bishop. Participate in Mass, pray the Rosary, meditate on the Scriptures, or join in Eucharistic Adoration.Acts of Mercy and Charity: Help those in need by performing acts of kindness like feeding the hungry, visiting the sick, or supporting charities. These acts count when done with sincere love and repentance.Prayer from Home: If you are unable to travel due to illness, age, or confinement, you can still receive the indulgence by praying at home, following Mass through media, and offering your struggles to God.By fulfilling these spiritual and charitable acts with a heart open to God’s mercy, Catholics can receive the Jubilee Indulgence, experiencing forgiveness and spiritual renewal. One of the most important observances of a Jubilee Year is pilgrimage, recalling the need for silence and recollection, forming friendships with fellow travelers, and seeking Christ, who is the way and the gateway to eternal life. Knowing that very few of us can travel to Rome to pass through the Jubilee’s Holy Doors, Archbishop Sample has designated 11 pilgrimage sites throughout the Archdiocese, where the faithful will be able to pray and unite themselves spiritually with all pilgrims.Visit our local Pilgrimage Sites

Jubilee Vicariate Celebrations: In order to foster spiritual growth, charitable outreach, and community collaboration, the Archdiocese encourages Vicariates to organize works of mercy, support charitable causes, and unite parishes through shared activities.
What is a Vicariate? A Vicariate is a regional grouping of neighboring parishes within a diocese, overseen by a vicar who supports the bishop in pastoral care and administration. This structure encourages parishes to work together on shared initiatives.
Aims
Spiritual Enrichment: Encourage parishes and individuals to practice the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy.
Charitable Outreach: Organize fundraising efforts to support a charitable cause chosen by the local parish or Vicariate.
